One of the best socially conscious rap songs of the old school hip-hop. Groups like Public Enemy and KRS One emerged later in the '80s with rap songs that usually had a political message of some kind. Chuck D of Public Enemy even called rap "The black CNN" for its ability to reach a young black audience. The socially conscious style gave way to rappers in the '90s who seemed more concerned about their cars, jewelry and women. The track is based on an obscure dance song called "Cavern" by the group Liquid Liquid. The song "Cavern" was influenced by the many different sources, funk, dub reggae of the 1970s. This track has been sampled and completely remastered by Joseph "Biggie Grand" Saddler and Sugarhill House Band. Sugarhill House Band bassist Doug Wimbish rearanged and played instantly recognizable bassline. Joseph "Biggie Grand" Saddler and Melvin "Melle Mel" Glover broke up before "White Lines" was released. Joseph Saddler, who was the DJ, went to court with Melvin Glover, who was the rapper, over rights to the name "Grandmaster." The video was directed by then unknown film student Spike Lee as a part of the college project & starred then unknown actor Laurence Fishburne. Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five Ft. It was the first show of their legendary first tour through France in which they received encores in every city. This sound he brings really reminds me of dub or some awesome psychedelic electronica for the club or park jam. He is sooo cute ..... like a little bunny or something. my friend played indoor soccer against him and toootally lost the match in the finals because the hardcore next level style that he used was killer! I hear he has a project called Crunc Tesla and he uses a tricked out midi guitar called a " miditar " that he connects to his laptop. this video is so psyh synth alternative that it is making me go completely nuts. I saw them play in london too and they brought that gabba metal to a stadium and completely crushed ish....while we all did shrooms listening to baltimore club records from the underground. But really, this music is straight up Soul from the breakcore type of movement that I have been krumping to lately. this is some math that is totally advanced. it stays bumping on my apple iphone and my old ipod. I even heard these kings rap over old school stuff like drum and bass and trip hop too...Rae even says he's got a Reggaeton project In fact, I'm actually a kitten named lisa Simpson !..... Troubleneck Brothers Fuck Yall Bronx natives the Troubleneck Brothers are best remembered for their 1994 sleeper hit single/video Back To The Hip-Hop, a flavorful, nostalgic ode to their halcyon boyhood days lived before they signed on the dotted line. In the ears of many a Bad Boy-despising ol skooler, this song (and others like it from artists such as the Artifacts, Common, Dred Scott, hell even Tupac) seemed to call for a revival of older (presumably circa 88) production values, lyrical versatility, and even a broadly defined artistic ethos. Now that 1994 is often considered to be the latter part of the canonical golden age of rap, such songs have taken on a mythic afterlife among throwback fiends. Before unwittingly contributing to hip hops romanticist movement and doing a bid in major label purgatory, the Troubleneck Brothers put out an entirely independent tape-only album that exudes plenty of amateurish charm to compensate for its forgivable lack of top-notch skill. As its title suggests, this effort remains contentedly mired in the rags-to-riches come-up narratives perfected by contemporaries like Pharcyde, Leaders of the New School, and the Bush Babees. The borrowing is not confined to song concepts or overarching themes. The obstreperous choruses and chants, frantic flows, and playful, adolescent vibe that characterizes the majority of Fuck Yall owes a lot to those aforementioned crews. The beats are hardly innovative, but they are surprisingly dynamic. On individual songs, funky breaks are often switched up from verse to verse, presumably in an attempt to help the listener distinguish between sound-alike emcees. The combination of an overpopulated rap crew and simplistic, practically predictable beats makes the entire album a chore to sit through. At its best, Fuck Yall feels a lot like GZAs pre-Wu Words From the GeniusLP, minus the polished, inventive rhyming. This should not be taken as a dis but rather as a caveat to those hip hop junkies who are quick to assume that an unearthed work is likely to include flashes of brilliance. But please be sure to play this at least once for the sheer fun of it.
