Of course every hip-hop head has heard of De La. They've released some of the most critically acclaimed hip-hop of all time, most notably the groundbreaking '3 Feet High and Rising'. Although commercially successful, the album's themes and cover art earned them the reputation of being 'hippies,' a label they were all too determined to shake off with their sophomore release. 'De La Soul Is Dead' succeeded in shedding the label, however its sales were also much less impressive. In spite of this, the album is still hailed as a hip-hop masterpiece with its funky beats and dark themes. This track epitomizes both the thematic basis for the album as well as the quality of production and lyricism.
