C'est ma vie, ces hauts et ces bas, ils parlent de moi mais ne me connaissent même pas J'ai pleuré un beau jour, 9heure du mat' de mai 81 après mon frère, ma mère ne pouvais plus enfanter, grâce a dieu j'atterrit sur terre, mon premier cri poussé mes premières larmes versées a la maternité d'l'appel de mai une famille des plus modeste à la rue parmentiers on était 7 à vivre dans un pièce mon père travaillait 15 heur par jours et jle voyait que le soir le regard marqué par le ciment et la routine bref après 4ans passé dans se taudis forcé de déménage vu que la famille c'est agrandit 143 rue félix pia mon premier meilleur ami lors d'une éclat t'inquiète frère jamais je t'oubli j'étais le premier mec avec qui je volais après la classe d'ocas' on dévalisait intèr-marcher tablette de chocolat crunche blanko et marquer la fine équipe du parc petit débrouillards tageurs bagarreurs après le foot c'était la mosquée basket a 4 bancs troué on puait des pieds c'est comme sa que j'ai appris ma premiers sonate j'me rappel c'était comme hier avec mon petit frère Morat enfant de Marseille insouciant peur de rien malgré les roustes a 8 ans j'allais au stade vélodrome comme un grand la vie est rude dans les rue de ma ville (arabe) écoute le récit de ma vie C'est ma vie, ces hauts et ces bas, ils parlent de moi mais ne me connaissent même pas C'est ma vie, ces larmes et ces joie, ces rires ces pleures ces peines ces choix que je ne regrette pas J'débarque a la savine en 1990 l'année ou ma mère a accouché du petit dernier l'équipe est au complet j'ai 4freres et 4 sœurs 2 grand frères 2 grandes sœurs 2 petits frères et deux petites sœurs au milieu de tout se beau monde un peu privilégié j'étais ni l'aîné ni le derniers j'trainais avec Marco le Bagdad ce genre de pirate qui revenait au cartier avec un bonnet ou un kart du collège vallepin au lycée nord des amines des liens se tissent dès qu'on s'attache avec ivresse perturbateur au fond du cours élève agité mais bon toujours premier surtout quand il fallait casser les couilles famille nombreuse ou le grand frères était un exemple juste et ferme droit et dur imble et fier qualités hériter de mes parents émigrés j'les en remercie pour toutes les chose dont ils se sont privé au faite j'allais zappé mes origines algérien (arabe) c'est pour sa que j'ai la tête dur d'origine C'est ma vie, ces hauts et ces bas, ils parlent de moi mais ne me connaissent même pas C'est ma vie, ces larmes et ces joie, ces rires ces pleures ces peines ces choix que je ne regrette pas Depuis petit j'suis un rêveur j'observe et je ne parle pas trop je passe mon temps a déliré quand j'm'enuie je réfléchit trop c'est la que sa se gatte tu te pose pleins de questions existentielle d'autant plus que la puberté s'en mêle à l'école ils disent que j'ai des facilités mais que j'suis pas sérieux que j'finirais par me gâcher grâce au foot j'ai eu des potes un peu partout à mars l'époque des tournois de foot qui réunissait les quartiers en masse (arabe) j'rêve d'avoir une carier comme l'enfant prodige dla castellan mais bon on est pas née sous la même étoile donc j'fais mon chemin et des petits textes apparaissent dans mes toiles à la sabine j'kiffais le rap mais rien de sérieux la morvèlle dans le nez j'prend le micro avec les plus vieux j'étais le seul arabes avec mes frères comorien Abdoul Karim zem marto et d'autre lacheriens le déclique en 9-6 avec le 4-5 j'fais ma première rencontre avec Alonso de psy4 9-8 j'prend mon micro et mon glaive la rage au micro t'inquiet frère sa sentait la relève C'est ma vie, ces hauts et ces bas, ils parlent de moi mais ne me connaissent même pas C'est ma vie, ces larmes et ces joie, ces rires ces pleures ces peines ces choix que je ne regrette pas Entre le foot et l'école le rap la déconne les mignonne les défilés de mode a saint-férionne Les survêt Lacoste la sape et la tchatche les jeux dansent le miaque on faisait pété dans le post Yeah c'est sa ma vie l'Algérino Marseille du parc a la savine dédicacer a toute ma famille dédicacer a tout mes amis ceux qui m'ont vu grandir ceux qui mon cotoyer a l'époque au parc au centre ville a vallepin au lycée nord tous les frères de la savine ceux qui me font des rappel quand j'par un peu en bip tous les frères de la villaine tous les frères de la sabine tous les mec avec qui j'ai rappé a l'ancienne le soutien que m'apporte mon cousin Ibrahim et la confiance que me font Nabil et Karim l'Algérino le ptit smire la famille Marseille ma ville

Since its conception, hip hop has been a genre heavily influenced by music of the past and personal experiences of contemporary artists. French hip hop is no exception. Today's artists have grown up with the rich history of French rap, ranging from NTM to IAM to MC Solaar. At the same time, the worldwide popularity of American hip hop artists such as Tupac, Notorious BIG, and 50 Cent have continued to shape the French rap scene. To the ignorant observer, stylistic choices and musical nods to their predecessors may make certain French artists look like they are merely "copying" their American counterparts. The beauty of today's French hip hop scene comes in the diverse origins of its rappers. The injection of personal culture into the hip hop genre allows for the emergence of new artists of various origins (Senegalese, Algerian, Comorian, etc) rapping about topics that could only arise from the context of contemporary France. Decades of immigration from former French colonies in sub-Saharan and North Africa has spawned this new generation of French rappers who reference Biggie and Pac in the same breath as l'Islam and l'Algerie. A perfect example is Rim-K's line in "Partir loin," in which he makes reference to both the revered reputation of California in the American rap game and the homeland of his ancestors, la Kabylie: "Moi, j'suis de Kabyliefornie." Cette video n'etait pas faite pour montrer que certains rappeurs "copient" d'autres, mais plutot pour montrer la richesse de l'influence multi-culturelle qui a forme le hip hop francais contemporain.

This may be the moment we look back on as the exact time and place where Allen Iverson finally got it. The mercurial superstar of the Philadelphia 76ers had just been named Most Valuable Player of the 50th NBA All-Star Game. He had just led the Eastern Conference to the greatest comeback in All-Star annals and was physically spent. Iverson was just miles from his hometown, minutes from his alma mater and in front of dozens of friends and family. There were a million emotions tugging at a very emotional man. Oh, yeah, did we mention that Iverson was standing right next to NBA commissioner David Stern? Iverson has been called on to Stern's carpet several times, including twice this season. David's not exactly one of Allen's homeboys. And when Stern offered a nice little pun about Iverson's rap music, it was as if Iverson didn't even hear him. As Stern handed him the MVP trophy, all Iverson could think of was one thing when he was asked to speak. "Where's my coach at?" he asked. "Where's Coach Brown?" It was a nice touch by Iverson to seek out Larry Brown, his coach for the past 3 1/2 seasons. For a player often described as selfish and immature, it was a giant step toward superstardom. "It's special, and it's a tribute to my coach and my teammates," said Iverson. "I've always felt that whether these guys know it or not, kids watch them and want to be like them and today was the greatest thing for basketball," Brown said. "There were so many lessons to be learned, from him in what he's accomplished." It was a moment about a million miles removed from Iverson's rookie year, when Charles Barkley called him "Me-myself-and-Iverson." It has been a long and bumpy road for Brown and Iverson. When Brown took over the 76ers in 1997, he was inheriting the NBA's problem child, a trigger-happy gunner with no respect for authority. There have been countless clashes. Over shot selection, which Iverson still is learning. Over defense, which Iverson once considered an afterthought. Over playing time, which Iverson wants at all times. Over practices, which Iverson long considered optional. This summer, the 76ers considered exiling Iverson to the Los Angeles Clippers. Maybe that was the moment. Iverson promised to improve his attendance at practice and be more understanding of Brown. He even asked for the captaincy to show his commitment. Yeah, sure, Allen. We'll believe it when we see it. But a funny thing happened this season. Iverson came to practice all the time. His shot selection and decision-making improved. He dug in on defense harder than ever before. And the Sixers started winning. A lot. They won their first 10 games and have never really slowed down, despite a series of debilitating injuries. As they enter the stretch run, their 37-13 record is in the best in the NBA. "I think you see in him, like you do in a lot of players, as they mature in the league off the floor, they mature on the floor," said Sacramento Kings coach Rick Adelman, who watched Iverson dismantle his Western Conference All-Stars in the fourth quarter. "They understand what it is all about. Allen seems to have done that." No one ever has doubted Iverson's skills or his competitiveness or his toughness. It is what has stamped his game with superstar quality. But there is more to being a superstar than playing at a level where your skill and desire are unmatched by anyone on the court. It also is determined by how you carry yourself off the court. Iverson has no plans to unbraid his cornrows, surgically remove his tattoos or give up his secondary dream of being a rap star. But he does seem as if he finally is committed to accepting all of the responsibilities of being a true superstar -- something the NBA desperately needs. "It's going to be beautiful for years to come," Iverson said of his moment. Perhaps Iverson finally does get it, even if we don't quite get him.

This by all hip hop: Radio One's fourth annual Dirty Awards ended abruptly this evening when two separate altercations erupted reportedly between rapper Shawty Lo and members of the Grand Hustle camp tonight (November 24). An eye witness told AllHipHop.com that the tension between the two crews mounted during Shawty Lo's performance, which included a diss version of Grand Hustle artist Yung LA's song "Ain't I." As Lo performed his version with a chorus "Don't I," an audience member identified by an eyewitness as Capitol recording artist Alfamega, allegedly threw a chair onto the stage. At that point, witnesses say another artist signed to the T.I.-helmed label stormed the stage, at which point authorities proceeded to break a fight. T.I. himself took the stage shortly after the fight to accept an award following, a reported private conversation with Shawty-Lo, in which the Grammy Award-winning rapper/actor allegedly insisted once again, that the two end their long-running beef. He proceeded to denounce the violence and negativity and assured the Dirty Awards audience that he did not condone the fighting. Shortly thereafter, however, a second fight broke out as T.I. performed his verse from "Ain't I," allegedly substituting some lyrics with verbal jabs at Shawty Lo, with whom he has had an unpleasant relationship throughout the year. Towards the end of the performance, another member of the Grand Hustle camp allegedly jumped off stage and assaulted a man witnesses said was Shawty Lo's brother. Police officers then halted the awards show, using pepper spray to end the fight. While the Dirty Awards audience was immediately evacuated, witnesses say other altercations may have occurred outside of the event. Rage Against the Machine Studio album by Rage Against the Machine Released November 3, 1992 Recorded May -- September 1992 Genre Alternative metal Funk metal Rapcore Length 52:56 Label Epic Records Tom Morello's guitar soloing is somewhat traditional on this album, taking influence more from heavy metal music, in comparison to later releases where it is more experimental and geared toward emulation of DJs and hip hop. The album is known for its high production values, which are almost to the strictest audiophile standards. Some audiophile sites and magazines even go as far as using the album — in particular the song "Take the Power Back" — to test amplifiers and speakers. In 2001 Q magazine named Rage Against the Machine as one of the 50 Heaviest Albums Of All Time. Artwork and sleeve notes The cover artwork features a famous photo of Thích Quảng Äức, a Vietnamese Buddhist monk, burning himself to death in Saigon in 1963. The monk was protesting President Ngô Äình Diệm's administration for oppressing the Buddhist religion. The statement "no samples, keyboards or synthesizers used in the making of this record" can be found at the end of the sleeve notes, and similar statements were made in the band's subsequent albums. The band also refer to themselves as "Guilty Parties" for each album. Track History: Take the Power Back is a song from the first album of 1990s political rock band, Rage Against the Machine. In the song front man Zack De La Rocha urges listeners to rebel against the current government of the United States of America, Canada, Australia, and various European nations, and he goes on to discuss the flaws of the American education system. The song was never released as a single, although a live version did appear on the "Freedom" single.
