Oh putain!

KRS-One began his recording career as one half of the hip hop group Boogie Down Productions alongside DJ Scott La Rock. They met during a stay KRS-One had at the Bronx's Franklin Armory Shelter. La Rock (real name Scott Sterling) worked as a social worker there. The duo would begin to create music. After being rejected by radio DJs Mr. Magic and Marley Marl, KRS-One would go on to diss the two and those associated with them, sparking what would later be known as The Bridge Wars. Additionally, KRS had taken offense to "The Bridge", a song by Marley Marl's protege MC Shan (later on, KRS One produced an album with Marley Marl in 2007); the song could be interpreted as a claim that Queensbridge was the birthplace of hip hop. Though MC Shan has repeatedly denied this claim. Still, KRS "dissed" the song with the BDP record "South Bronx"; a second round of volleys would ensue with Shan's "Kill That Noise" and BDP's "The Bridge Is Over". KRS-One, demonstrating his nickname "The Blastmaster", gave a live performance that devastated MC Shan, and many conceded he had won the battle. Many beleive this live performance to be the first MC battle where rappers attack each other, instead of a battle between who can get the crowd more hyped.

I don't know why you're tryin' to get us so mad at you Mic check, one two, ve-nahafokh hu You try to make us cry so we laugh at you Now hold on who the heck is this who is not bowin' to me? My name is Haman I ain't playin' you should cower to see me The King's second hand man--Mordechai stands? No, he does not bow! Now every Jew in the land... Is gonna get what is comin' the king has got my instructions and when you see us comin' Jews you'd better be runnin' I'm feeling good as can be, these Jews are ceasing to be And now the king and queen have called a special session for me They want to know how they should show appreciation elation I tell them dress him up in a king's clothes and get to paradin' Thought they was talkin' 'bout me, but now my head's at the feet of Mordechai who's in the right--now tell me how could this be?! CHORUS x2 Hey man... Oh no-no this can not-not be there must buh-be a mistake I'm so humiliated that my words have started to shake indeed all the Jews shall die, but the ice on the cake is when Mordechai is hung high from a fifty foot stake I'm goin' back to the feast, I think the king will at least have me at his table, probably save me a seat (yeah) my power's ridiculous, I will wear the crown and Mordechai's dead body from the stake will have to bow down But when I enter the center I am presented by Esther as the evil Haman, Hey man, this is offensive Hey man now Haman is swayin high up above he is hanging and Mordechai is below with the crown and sayin'... The best and most popular French rapper, MC Solaar found success in America among fans of acid jazz and jazz-rap (if not the larger hip-hop community) after guesting on Guru's acclaimed Jazzmatazz project. His fluid phrasing makes up for his lack of English, and the production on his solo work (by DJ Jimmy Jay and Boom Bass of La Funk Mob) surpasses that of most of his hip-hop contemporaries. Born Claude M'Barali in Senegal, Solaar later moved to Paris and released his first single, "Bouge de La," in 1990. Two later tracks became French hits, prompting the release of his first album, Qui Seme le Vent Recolte le Tempo, in 1991. Introduced to the U.S. by way of two compilations (Tommy Boy's Planet Rap and Island's The Rebirth of Cool), MC Solaar recorded "Le Bien, Le Mal" for 1993's Jazzmatazz LP. His second album, Prose Combat, earned an American release on Cohiba by 1994. Paradisiaque followed in 1997, and Solaar returned a year later with a self-titled effort. La Tour de la Question appeared in 1999.

Pryce and Banfield decided to break away from a 13-strong rap aggregation called "Warm Milk And The Cookie Crew" and make a career as a duo. In 1985 their career took off after winning a national rap championship and recording two sessions for the John Peel radio show. They gained a contract from the UK dance record label Rhythm King and were put in the studio with the production trio Beatmasters, who put them in a house music direction. In July 1987, the resultant single "Rok Da House" (no relation to the dance single "Rock The House" by Scoop) was popular in the nightclubs and peaked at number 79 in UK Singles Chart. Their follow-up single "Females" also was a minor hit in October 1987. The continuing popularity of "Rok Da House" in nightclubs eventually renewed interest in the track and garnered a couple of television appearances. The record was re-issued at end of December 1987 and crossed over into the mainstream. The song became a Top 5 hit at the beginning of February 1988, and was even used for an advertising campaign. The track is often quoted as being the first hip house record. The duo moved on to another label, FFRR Records and different producers, resulting in a string of hit singles in 1989, with "Born This Way (Let's Dance)", "Got To Keep On" and "Come And Get Some"; plus the album Born This Way! which reached a modest number 24 in the UK Albums Chart. By 1992 there were differences of opinion with their then label London Records over musical direction, and the duo parted company to pursue separate projects. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cookie_Crew
