Well, stop right here. Cloverfield is Godzilla. Take a look at the video and think about this: why go through all of this secrecy for a monster you've never seen before? Now, in the case of Godzilla we've seen him before and the 1998 version, set in New York City, was a huge let-down crying to be remade. From another perspective, what other creature could cause such a massive level of destruction other than one capable of breathing atomic breath and destroying not just the Statue Of Liberty, but incinerating a good portion of lower Manhattan.
