Pryce and Banfield decided to break away from a 13-strong rap aggregation called "Warm Milk And The Cookie Crew" and make a career as a duo. In 1985 their career took off after winning a national rap championship and recording two sessions for the John Peel radio show. They gained a contract from the UK dance record label Rhythm King and were put in the studio with the production trio Beatmasters, who put them in a house music direction. In July 1987, the resultant single "Rok Da House" (no relation to the dance single "Rock The House" by Scoop) was popular in the nightclubs and peaked at number 79 in UK Singles Chart. Their follow-up single "Females" also was a minor hit in October 1987. The continuing popularity of "Rok Da House" in nightclubs eventually renewed interest in the track and garnered a couple of television appearances. The record was re-issued at end of December 1987 and crossed over into the mainstream. The song became a Top 5 hit at the beginning of February 1988, and was even used for an advertising campaign. The track is often quoted as being the first hip house record. The duo moved on to another label, FFRR Records and different producers, resulting in a string of hit singles in 1989, with "Born This Way (Let's Dance)", "Got To Keep On" and "Come And Get Some"; plus the album Born This Way! which reached a modest number 24 in the UK Albums Chart. By 1992 there were differences of opinion with their then label London Records over musical direction, and the duo parted company to pursue separate projects. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cookie_Crew

1990) "Ice Ice Baby" is rapper Vanilla Ice's most famous and popular song, released from his album To The Extreme. "Ice Ice Baby" was the first rap single ever to hit number one on the Billboard Hot 100. The song was nominated for a Grammy for Best Rap Solo Performance in 1991 but lost to MC Hammer's "U Can't Touch This". The single, released by SBK Records, sold 15 million copies.[citation needed] The song was the first Billboard Hot 100 #1 single to not have an American release on a vinyl 45 during its initial chart run. The song also reached #1 in the UK, becoming one of the first rap singles there to do so. _____________________________________ Rob Van Winkle drew controversy by claiming that he owed no royalties for using a bass line almost identical to "Under Pressure", citing one minor alteration. Although no lawsuit was ever filed, the rapper supposedly settled out of court, and songwriting credit was retroactively given to the members of Queen and David Bowie. Death Row Records CEO Suge Knight claimed his friend had written the lyrics to the song, and forced Van Winkle to sign the publishing rights to him. It was reported that Knight had allegedly dangled Van Winkle by the ankles over the balcony to get royalties from the song. Van Winkle denied these claims, stating "They had some papers there and Suge took me out on the balcony by myself [...] He took me out on the balcony, and he had me look over the balcony, ya know. And I looked over and he basically says to me, 'You're gonna sign these papers here. You wanna come to my city, you're gonna have to pay to play, brother.' And I go, 'OK, I got the picture, ya know. _____________________________________ For a million-selling pop star, Robert Van Winkle, a.k.a. Vanilla Ice, has had a pretty rough ride. His debut To the Extreme hit #1 in early 1991, and immediately, due to his numerous dubious claims to street cred, he became the willing punch line to any number of jokes regarding white rappers. He has never recovered from that one blistering year in the sun. And yet his chart-topping Queen- and David Bowieinterpolating single from that year, "Ice Ice Baby," is a landmark that has never truly faded from view. The remainder of To the Extreme is a regrettable yet oddly charming curio of late '80s hip-hop production tropes, a rewrite of L.L. Cool J's "I Need Love" called, ahem, "I Love You," and some truly dumbfounding rhymes. To wit, this boast from "Play That Funky Music": "You're amazed by the V.I.P. posse/Steppin' so hard like German Nazi." The album, in addition to his thunderous lack of self-consciousness, doomed his public profile so completely that by the time his feature film Cold as Ice appeared a year later, he was drummed out of show business. In 1994 he reappeared with dreadlocks and an astonishingly inept and hilarious "gangsta" record, Mind Blowin. Even the contemporaneous release of MC Hammer's The Funky Headhunter couldn't make Ice's paeans to marijuana ("Roll 'Em Up") or numerous attacks on persistent critics and fellow white rappers 3rd Bass seem less desperate by comparison. Again banished, he reappeared in 1998 with Hard to Swallow, in which he hitched his cart to the burgeoning rap-metal idiom. Produced by genre kingpin Ross Robinson, the record sounds as thick and vicious as Korn, and (surprise) the Iceman dumps eight years of resentment and recrimination into the mix, emerging with furious responses to his critics, as well as "Too Cold," an aggro retooling of "Ice Ice Baby." His most convincing music came when he appropriated the metallic white-MC style that he presaged. But it was all for naught; Hard to Swallow failed and was followed by 2001's utterly listless Bipolar.

He is also known for hosting MTV's Pimp My Ride. He has released a new album once every two years since his 1996 debut At the Speed of Life; his most recent Full Circle, was released in October 2006. He also provided the voice for Abbott in the 2004 video game, The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay.At a very young age he was taught to write by his mother Trena who passed away when Xzibit was nine years old. His father re-married and the family moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico where Xzibit spent his adolescence. At the age of 13 Xzibit began listening to rap and writing lyrics, which didn't go over well with his ex-Marine father and strict stepmother, who were both Jehovah's Witnesses. From 14 to 17, Xzibit spent much of his time on the streets of Albuquerque and began to get into trouble. His misfortunes followed him to school and he was expelled from the high schools in Albuquerque.Xzibit started off as a member of the Likwit Crew, a loose collective of West Coast rappers including Tha Alkaholiks and King T. After touring with them in 1995, Loud Records released the young rapper's debut album, At the Speed of Life in 1996. The album quickly became an underground hit. When Xzibit released his follow-up, 40 Dayz & 40 Nightz (1998), he was again heralded as one of the West Coast's most promising talents despite no commercial success. He expanded his following with a series of albums beginning in the late 1990s, ultimately aligning himself with hip hop kingpin Dr. Dre. Xzibit's big breakthrough came when he joined Snoop Dogg for the Dr. Dre-produced hit, "Bitch Please." What followed were some high profile guest appearances on Dr. Dre's 6x platinum 2001, on songs like "What's the Difference?" and the posse song "Some L.A. Niggaz". By this time, Dre had invited the young rapper to criss-cross America during summer 2000 with the "Up in Smoke" tour which featured Snoop, Eminem, and Ice Cube, among many others. That winter, Loud released Xzibit's Restless with Dr. Dre as executive producer, which boasted the single "X". The song became the rapper's biggest hit yet.Xzibit returned with another album, Man Vs. Machine, yet again he fell a bit short of mainstream success, although he did manage to go gold. He continued to collaborate with his closest West Coast colleagues, primarily Ras Kass and Saafir with whom he formed The Golden State Project rap collective, and tha Liks, along with bigger names like Snoop Dogg and Eminem. His allegiance to the West Coast and former colleagues continued to win him much respect from his fans. Weapons of Mass Destruction followed two years later which also managed to go gold. Xzibit also has his own record label called Open Bar Entertainment.Xzibit also guest starred in the song Stand Up on the 2005 Alice Cooper album Dirty Diamonds. Xzibit used to be a part of a group called Strong Arm Steady with Mitchy Slick, Phil The Agony and Krondon, a group he practically founded. Xzibit actually left the group recently when they signed to Talib Kweli's Blacksmith Records. He was born in St. Louis, Missouri but grew up in Senegal until he was seven. He split time between Senegal and the U.S. until he was fifteen, then his family permanently moved to Jersey City, New Jersey and as such he speaks English, French, and Wolof. He recorded his first song, "Operations of Nature," at the age of fifteen. He was jailed for armed robbery and drug distribution charges, and used his time in prison to work on his music. Upon release, Akon began writing and recording tracks in his home studio. The tapes found their way to SRC/Universal, which released Akon's debut LP Trouble in June 2004. The album is a hybrid of Akon's silky, West African-styled vocals mixed with East Coast and Southern beats.Akon's solo debut album, Trouble was released on June 29, 2004. It spawned the hit singles "Locked Up" and "Lonely," as well as "Belly Dancer (Bananza)," "Pot Of Gold," and "Ghetto". Akon served a three-year jail sentence for grand theft auto, an experience that inspired his "Locked Up". "Locked Up" reached the top 10 in the U.S. and the top five in the UK. His manager Robert Montanez was shot to death following a dispute in New Jersey in December 2005. "Ghetto" became a radio hit when it was remixed by Green Lantern to include verses from legendary rappers 2Pac and The Notorious B.I.G. In 2005, he released the single "Lonely" (which samples Bobby Vinton's "Mr. Lonely"). The song reached the top five on the Billboard Hot 100, and topped the charts in Australia, the UK and Germany. His album also climbed to number one in the UK in April, 2005. When music channel The Box had a top ten weekly chart, which was calculated by the amount of video requests, Akon's "Lonely" became the longest running single on the top of the chart, spanning over fifteen weeks. Akon then released another single featuring with a New Zealand rapper, Savage with the single Moonshine, which had become a success in both New Zealand and Australia, becoming number one in the New Zealand charts.
